One of the great ironies of our day is that a holiday celebrating fruitfulness (Father’s Day) lands in the middle of the month celebrating fruitlessness (Pride Month).
Homosexuality is barren by nature. It produces no offspring. Its basket is filled to the brim with nothing but debased thinking and God’s judgment (Rm. 1:28). The math in a sodomite world doesn’t add up: one man + one man = zero children. This is why when God said it is not good for a man to be alone, he didn’t give him another man (homosexuality), a relative (incest), a child (pedophilia), a man dressed up like a woman (debauchery) or multiple women (polygamy).
God gave Adam a woman (Gen. 2:18). God’s math works: 1 + 1 = lots. This equation made the first Father’s Day possible. It set in motion heterosexual fruitfulness. The latter (fruitfulness) would be impossible without the former (heterosexual).
As Father’s Day approaches, it’s important to remember that there’s two kinds of proud. There’s a good kind of proud, the kind a father feels when his son comes home with straight A’s, and a bad kind of proud, like when a rapper thanks himself for his accomplishments. Good pride has deep satisfaction in others. God loves this (Pr. 3:12). Bad pride has deep satisfaction in self. God hates this (Pr. 6:17).
Like two rams smacking heads, two kinds of pride converge this month. The media wants you to think that the herds of Straight and Gay are roughly the same size. They’re not. Not even close. But the homosexual tsunami is a thing and parents shouldn’t let such an opportunity to teach their kids go to waste. Here are seven lessons parents should teach their kids during Pride Month, given as A-G as an easy way to remember.
1. Apologize never (for truth). Forced apologies are a major strategy of the Left. A man stands up and speaks the truth. The media pick up rocks and tell him he is to apologize or else. He apologizes. His pastor urged it. The mob does not tar and feather him, but does smash a few windows on the way out, just as a reminder. Christians should speak compassionately. They should listen well. But they should never ask pardon for speaking the truth. Hurting another person’s feelings isn’t necessarily a sin. It may be a sin not to hurt their feelings.
I’m thankful for some of the Devil Rays that refused to wear the rainbow on their uniform. There should have been hundreds more. But if their answer represents today’s strong voice of reason, the church is in trouble. “A lot of it comes down to faith. So it’s a hard decision. Because ultimately we all said what we want is them to know that all are welcome and loved here.”
2. Blushing is a grace. Shame is a gift. God condemns those that call evil good. “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil (Isa. 5:20). You’re not more loving to a homosexual coworker by coddling his sin. Instead, you avoid the shame that can push him to repentance. The book The Grace of Shame will put you on the right track, or at least this review.
3. Contra mundum. Some 1700 years ago much of the world believed the lie that Jesus was the Father’s greatest creation but not God in the flesh. One man, Athanasius resisted. When told the world was against him, he replied by saying that he was against the whole world. Athanasius contra mundum was born: Athanasius against the world. This is the mindset Christians must have when addressing the sexual revolution.
4. Don’t ignore it. There’s no use pretending Major League Baseball is neutral when it advertises drag shows at the ballpark. You can’t claim half the department store isn’t littered in rainbow colors in the kids’ section, or that Vodacom is Christian, or that every major South African city doesn’t have Pride parades. It’s today’s reality. Address it. If your children are small, as are mine, it can be difficult to answer the question: “What’s gay?” For now you might simply define it as guys acting like girls. But whatever the age, teach the truth. Genesis 19 and Romans 1 is a good place to start.
5. Evangelize your kids. Sodomy isn’t the unpardonable sin. “Such were some of you” Paul said (1Co. 6:11). Tell your kids that everyone needs pardon and the grace of Jesus Christ, not just homes with two Dads.
6. Fruitful = father + mother. Drill this home. Tell your children that children are a blessing and big families are big blessings. But children don’t just happen. You’ve got to follow the right formula, God’s formula. Male and female he created them.
7. God owns the rainbow. The LGBT crowd came to the Rainbow Launch Parade 6,000 years too late. Then they took credit for it. Genesis 9 is the first place we find the rainbow. Genesis 9 also begins with the words: “Be fruitful and multiply.” The rainbow is God’s promise to the world, but a promise that makes no sense without fruitful, heterosexual marriages. So the next time you see a rainbow flag, start preaching. God sits in the heavens and laughs. The world that hates God thought the rainbow would cast Him down, when all they did was offer up millions of arrows to his great promise.
